SAFE Afghanistan

Our Projects

We focus on practical, sustainable initiatives that provide real opportunities for Afghan youth and communities

Current Project 2026

We have been asked by our Afghan partners to assist with a severely under-resourced school in the Mirazar area, as well as with home-schooling initiatives for girls in Bamiyan province. The most urgent need is to provide a well for the school, which educates both girls and boys up to the age of 15–16. SAFE is committed to supporting this project; we are particularly encouraged by the presence of female staff members, which aligns with our ethos of promoting inclusion for girls and women.

Previous Projects

Mirazar School

30km away, in the same remote mountain district west of Kabul, our first Mirazar school was opened by SAFE chairman Terence O’Malley in 2004 and currently has 363 students. We have continued to support the school and last year, with the help of generous donors, added a security wall and playground.

Solar Panels

Solar panels were installed to provide water to Mirazar school and a nearby clinic (part funded by SAFE), as well as a tap for local use.

SAFE Concert to Fund Women's Programme in Afghanistan

In June 2023, SAFE hosted a concert to help fund a women’s tailoring programme in rural Afghanistan, run in partnership with the Central Afghanistan Welfare Committee (CAWC).

Tailoring Programme

The tailoring programme is going well, providing women with a shop to sell their work and earn an income to feed their children.

And Also…

Assistance provided by SAFE since 1990 has covered a wide range of activities including:

Education for All

We fund scholarships and school supplies for underprivileged children and young adults, especially girls, to help them access primary, secondary, and higher education.

Skills Development Programs

SAFE supports vocational training centers that teach practical skills like tailoring, carpentry, computing, and language learning—empowering individuals to earn a livelihood and contribute to their communities.

Women’s Empowerment Initiatives

We run women-led community programs focused on health, literacy, and entrepreneurship, helping women become leaders and change-makers in their regions.

Digital Access Projects

From distributing tablets to installing solar-powered internet hubs in remote areas, we’re committed to closing the digital divide and bringing Afghan students into the global knowledge network.

School Infrastructure Support

We partner with local organizations to build and renovate schools, ensuring safe, inclusive, and resource-equipped environments for learning.

Community Partnership Projects

We work closely with local educators, parents, and NGOs to ensure our efforts are community-driven and culturally appropriate.
